05|05|2016 - WEC SPA THURSDAY

Roberto Merhi started his second outing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the best possible way by setting a promising best lap in today's free practice at Spa Francorchamps (Belgium).

Ahead of what will be his second race in the WEC, Roberto and the Manor team have done an important step forward from their maiden run a few weeks ago at Silverstone, where they scored their first points of the season. Roberto set a time eight tenths faster than the next fastest in the LMP2 category.

Tomorrow, Friday, the third and final free practice will be held before the qualifying that will decide the starting grid for the six hour race due on Saturday.

Roberto commented:

“I've got very good feelings at the wheel. During the first session we were working on the setup and continuing with my adaptation to this kind of car, quite different in behavoir to a singleseater. In the second session it was important to get a real idea of where we'd be and I must say that I'm surprised by the very positive result as I wasn't expecting to be almost one second faster than the next fastest. My two team mates, especially Bradley, were also very fast, and that's very important as in this kind of race it is the team work and not only the individual than produces the final result. Anyway, it's still early but the weekend is looking good and we've got a lot of chances to improve on the result of the first race.”
