14|06|2016 - 24 HOURS OF LE MANS, PREVIEW

This weekend MB Partners' client Roberto Merhi will make his debut in what is arguably the world's greatest endurance race - the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He will be driving the #44 car for the Manor WEC team. The Oreca 05, raced in the LMP2 class is to be the only car Manor will have at the race, as opposed to the usual two cars for other WEC races.

Roberto will take to the legendary circuit this weekend with team mates Matt Rao and Tor Graves. During testing last week, it was crucial that both Rao and Merhi completed the mandatory 10 laps each as rookies to qualify for the race, which they accomplished; the team managing a total of 61 laps between them. Merhi finished testing feeling confident having familiarised himself with the track and looking forward to the challenge ahead of him this weekend.

Despite it being Roberto and the team's debut in the 24 hour race, they show great promise. Only two races into the series, they celebrated on the Spa podium after the team's astounding driving saw them take third place. The 24 hours of Le Mans will be the team's third race, where it's hoped their strong performance will continue.

Reflecting on testing, Merhi commented: “The track is a lot of fun to drive and I think we have showed that we have potential here. I think it is a good result for myself and the team with it being my first time here. It was difficult to manage traffic here with so many cars but I feel more confident now.”

The weekend's racing at Le Mans begins with qualifying on Thursday, with two-hour sessions at 7pm and 10pm. Friday will be the famous drivers' parade, and Saturday will start with a 9am warm up session, before the race begins at 3pm.
