Brake issues preclude podium finish for Merhi

It was a difficult weekend for MB Partners' client Roberto Merhi and the Manor Racing team, as issues with the car ended what looked to be a potential podium at the 6 Hours of Nürburgring.

After changing weather conditions made qualifying problematic, the team had their work cut out for them in the main race. Roberto Merhi was behind the wheel of the #45 car from the start, quickly forcing his way through the field from P8 to P4. Around an hour into the race, the car had moved up to P2 and the outlook was good for a podium finish.

With about an hour to go, the engineers noticed clouds of brake dust coming from #45 car, which was running in P3 at the time. Richard Bradley was instructed to box immediately. The car was wheeled into the garage where it became apparent that it would take no further part in the race.

Roberto commented:

“I think we had a really good start to the race, I was very happy to get the car from P8 up to P3 by the end of my stints. It’s not good to have a technical failure but I don’t think it is related to the team and I am happy they are doing a good job.”

After a short break, the World Endurance Championship returns on 3rd September as teams head to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for the 6 Hours of Mexico.
