14|09|2016 - 6 HOURS OF CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS
Merhi returns to WEC action for Manor in Texas.
LONDON, 14 SEPTEMBER 2016
Roberto Merhi teams up with Matt Rao and Richard Bradley behind the wheel of the #44 Manor Endurance Racing car in the FIA World Endurance Championship this weekend as they compete in the 6 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas in the LMP2 class.
The majority of the season thus far has seen Merhi in the #45 Manor Oreca 05 Nissan but he has made the switch ahead of this weekend’s event in Austin.
Merhi returns to the team this weekend after Manor made the decision to not run the #45 car for the 6 Hours of Mexico, instead focussing all of their energies on its sister car.
That weekend saw Picho Toledano behind the wheel of the car alongside Bradley and Rao but Roberto returns to the ranks in Texas and will be looking to help the team toward an improved performance after they were forced to retire the car a fortnight ago in Mexico City.
Having been opened in 2012, the Austin-based track is a purpose-built racing facility boasting a 20-turn, Herman Tilke-designed circuit. Interestingly, it is one of only two circuits on the WEC calendar that runs anti-clockwise, Fuji in Japan being the other and it features a fantastic run up a steep hill to Turn 1.
The WEC cars will take to the Texan track on Thursday, September 15th at 14:45 (local time) for the first free practice session. LMP Qualifying is on Friday, September 16th at 18:15 and the ‘6 Hours of COTA’ will get underway at 17:00 on Saturday, September 17th and race into the night.
